the downtown area is old and falling apart many empty buildings. why not take down an entire block of buildings and make a central park. the city could invite local food vendors in during the day to provide breakfast and lunch. people in the area can get some exercise walking to the park for lunch outside on a beautiful day. you could even put an koi pond in the center if you like.

Paul Jackson ~ TR home inventory service

Have an event downtown for all ages. one weekend a year, in the evening. Have the roads blocked off, invite musicians (from around town: guitarists, singers, any talent) to come and have their own little space to preform. Restaurants, hotels, and shops all open. (including the new awesome coffee shop). You guys could even set up a few booths. If you posted ads in town (and at the schools definately), then you would get a big crowd. E-mail me for more details because I have a lot of ideas :)

Lufkin is known as a retirement area, but with the current economy, retirees are finding they need to continue to work. Lufkin needs more jobs for thee 55 & over age bracket. Those that need more of a job than the Walmart greeter or the sample person for Chick-Fa-La. We need industry that recognizes that these people still have a lot to offer.

Not a big idea but an idea none the less. Get rid of the alligators in the lake next to the zoo. Then rent Canoe's & Paddle boats.

John Brink ~ Memorial Health System of East TX

Not sure if this is exactly a big idea, but a money making idea.
Tons and tons of people go to Louisiana just for gambling purposes and while they are there they also shop......So why not, if they are gonna do it anyway provide a place where the money can stay in Texas.....????

I have two ideas. One the city could invite Dave & Buster to open a place here. they could use the old Randall's building.

Second, Provide classes on the sport of geocaching. Invite geocachers to hold events here in the city. For information about geocaching http://www.geocaching.com.

Bradley Henley ~ none

Firework show/display on New Years would be terrific!!...

Olivia Leigh Spradlin ~ LibbyLu.com

First of all, thank you very much for the Buffalo Wild Wings. Next my family would really like to see a Kohl's. Despite the stores that we do have hear most of our shopping is done in Beaumont or Austin for that store alone.

Jeremy Bertrand ~ Dell

How about putting a parking garage at the George H Henderson Expo Center. With all the events there, a lot of people find themselves having to park along side the highway. The garage could help clear up some of the traffic, especially around the Fourth and Forest Festival celebrations.

Abran Arvizu ~ N/A

A park for dogs!! I have a 70 pound baby who couldn't even hurt a fly, and running for the ball inside my aprtment is getting old. He is such a sweetheart! He used to live in another state with my son, and they would always take him to this amazing place for dogs. It hurts my heart to always have him on a leash when we go outside. Make it happen please!!!

Dolores Perez ~ CIS

a Souper Salad would be so good in this area!

my big ideal is to bring a company like itz to lufkin so the kids can a fun place to play and spend time

carla guillen ~ noe

a putt putt golf course like Mountasia in Humble,Texas...the entire family can go and have a blast, anything from putt putt to bumper boats arcade games etc. If you've been there you know what I mean! Someone who had the money to start one of these would make their money back and then some in no time! Hubby and I have ideas so if you decide to do it let us know! LOL!
Blessings Abound!

I believe Lufkin, Tx needs a publicly funded NO KILL animal shelter that helps nuttier neglected and abused animals back to health to be adopted by a family who will actually love them

Alexis Haley Melton ~ Student

ANGELINA County desperately needs EQUINE FRIENDLY trails. There are trails to hike on and bike on, but no public trails for horseback riders to enjoy. This would be a family friendly endevour, one for all ages to enjoy, and a place that local riding schools and 4H groups could take their students to enjoy the beauty of Angelina County, safe off of dangerous roads.

We need a Lane Bryant-for plus size shopping!!! A Chuck E. Cheese for the kids!!! Some type of skate park area so that kids can get out there and skatein a safe family friendly enviroment. There also needs to be a place to hang out-shoot pool besides the bowling alley-a large open area with lots of pool tables-jukebox-arcade gamesa family friendly enviroment-to have good clean entertainment-theres nothing but bars here!!!

Someone in Lufkin ~ Community

Just from reading some of the ideas listed, I have to say that I agree with most of them. Lufkin really needs something for the entire family, not just grownups. There is really nothing for children or the entire family to do here. I would like something that is alcohol free that everyone could enjoy. I know that when we take our kids out, it is dinner and a movie, thats it. A great putt putt course with a go cart course would be nice. Or something big like a waterpark. We have to drive hours to do that, and we do all summer long.

judy herrington ~ Quest Diagnostics

After Playzone and Lazertag closed, there aren't enough kiddie places for birthday parties. We need get more indoor party places.

Thanks

I believe an entertainment area like Tinseltown would be great for a family outing or for a night out on the town. It could have a Dave and Busters, comedy club and a shopping center.

Brandy Mitchon ~ Tinseltown / Dave and Busters!

Lufkin really needs a place for plus size women to shop. Catherines and Lane Bryant would be great. It makes no sense to have to go out of town to shop for clothes. It would even benefit the communities surrounding Lufkin as well. Also we need more industry jobs, I know people talk about a retirement community here, no disrespect to those who are retired but for us that live and work here we need jobs. There's a lot of eating places being built but we need jobs to sustain families. Jobs with higher wages, insurance and benefits. I work in the service industry but when there's no jobs and no money people cut back and no one makes any money. Please do something, Lufkin is a great place to live but we have to have good jobs.

Would like to see a motorcycle rally with bike show, sports bike show, music, biker related vendors and food vendors...like a Lone Star rally or other rally held around Texas...bring in people from all over to stay at hotels here, eat here and taken in our Angelina county for all it has to offer. If the rally could be around a reason...such raise food for the food bank or some other organization that would benefit our area too.

Jonathan P. Matthews ~ Southland Federal Credit Union

For years Lufkin has tried to welcome Tourists, the Retired and Snowbirds. Yet we refuse to offer them Campgrounds (don't want trailer trash) yet most drive $100,000. motor homes or pull lovely R Vs. We lost Hank creek Marina, the only recreation camp near Lufkin. Never developed Marion Ferry Park and now we can't decide what to do with Lake Kurth, what a great opportuniy for fantastic Visitors Park, the state would be proud of. I owned a motor home & you have no idea what other states offer travelers in the way of pleasure and ways to spend freely in their cities.

William (bill) McCullough ~ RET

Bring new stores to the mall. You have to drive all the way
to Houston or Tyler to find a hollister or ambercrombie. That would also bring people from surrounding towns this way. I hate having to make a huge trip just to go clothes shopping.

Joshua simmons ~ Simmons recovery

A great minature golf course like the pirate themed one in Hot Springs Arkansas. Not like the little rinky dink putt putt courses that we have had in the past. When we go on vacation and take our grandchildren we will do museum's and attractions during the day and in the evening we search out any minature golf courses. Tucson Arizona has some wonderful ones. Please check into this you will be amazed at how many families will come to this. We don't have anything the family can do for entertainment other than the zoo or bowling. Any age and ability of a person can usually handle minature golf.

Diana Perkins ~ no company

I think a park with bumper boats, go carts, putt putt, a carrousel, arcades and things for the little ones to enjoy would be great for Lufkin.
