Don't Miss Out on Leadership Tomorrow!
Time is drawing near for the start of a new Leadership Tomorrow year. Applications will be available to all Angelina County high school and home school juniors on August 24th and will be due at the Lufkin/Angelina Chamber of Commerce no later than September 30th for the class of 2009-2010.
Leadership Tomorrow, hosted by the Chamber, was designed for high school juniors and mirrors the Leadership Lufkin program. Students in the program have the opportunity to learn about Angelina County firsthand, to explore possible career opportunities in this area, and give back to the community through service projects during the year.
“The Leadership Tomorrow Program is a great way to introduce students to the many facets of life in Angelina County,” said Libby Allen, chairman for the Leadership Tomorrow Program. “Not only will they develop leadership and team building skills, they will have the opportunity to personally meet and visit with community leaders.”
The class year will begin with a reception to welcome students and thank their sponsors. During the following seven months, the students will attend a total of five sessions that educate them on social services, health care, education and government in Angelina County. During this time the students will also work on three community volunteer projects and close out the year with graduation in April.
This year’s program will be lead by Chairman, Libby Allen (Lufkin State Supported Living Center, and the Leadership Tomorrow Committee, including Andy Adams (Lufkin Daily News); Greg Bowman (Morgan Stanley); Lynn Hopper (Lufkin State Supported Living Center); Brenda Newton (Angelina Plastic Surgery); Natalie Thornton (CASA of the Pines); and Sammy Weaver (Consolidated Communications). The Chamber extends a special thanks to our 2009-2010 sponsors who are Angelina Beautiful/Clean, Brookshire Brothers, Etech, Inc., and Lufkin Industries.
Applications and tentative schedules for the program will be available at high school counselor’s offices, the Lufkin/Angelina Chamber of Commerce office, and on-line at: www.leadershiptomorrowlufkin.com
