ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) – Friday, East Texans celebrated the newest additions of Cassels-Boykin Park.

The project is part of the first phase of a multi-million dollar endeavor.

The Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce gathered with several agencies and organizations, all who have made this project possible.

A special dedication ceremony honored the newest park features. East Texas can now enjoy a brand new pavilion, a new five lane boat ramp and a large parking lot.

Organizers believe the project will greatly benefit our local economy.

"This is going to get more people here, make it more accessible, bring more money into this region and invest in the local businesses and the local communities and we're proud to help with that," said Carter Smith, the Executive Director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The next phase of the project includes the construction of a handicapped peer. Organizers are not certain when this project will be completed.
