Leadership Lufkin Alumni Reconnect with Legacy Project at “Serve at Sunrise” Service Event

The Leadership Lufkin Alumni Association kicked off the morning with purpose at Leaders & Lattes: Serve at Sunrise, held Thursday from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Lufkin Dog Park at Grace Dunn Richardson Park. The event brought alumni together for a morning of coffee, connection, and community service.

The Lufkin Dog Park holds a special place in Leadership Lufkin history. The park was originally developed as a Leadership Lufkin Class 33 project after a community needs assessment conducted by the City of Lufkin identified a dog park as one of the community’s top priorities. More than a decade later, alumni returned to the site to reconnect with that legacy and help maintain a project that continues to benefit residents and their pets.

Volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work refreshing the park. Together, the group removed leaves, mud, and debris from walkways, cleaned park and sponsor signage, and repainted dog waste receptacles and water fountains to help restore and beautify the space.

Participants included:

  • Madi Stott, Lufkin Angelina County Chamber of Commerce
  • Emily Harmon, Angelina Beautiful Clean
  • Starla Bickerstaff, Leadership Lufkin Class 33
  • Wendy Robuck, Leadership Lufkin Class 33
  • Alaina Helton, Leadership Lufkin Class 33
  • Sabrina Lillard, Leadership Lufkin Class 33
  • Candice Stott, Leadership Lufkin Class 36
  • Mandy Pinner, Leadership Lufkin Class 41

It was especially meaningful to welcome several members of Class 33, who returned to reconnect with the project their class helped bring to life more than ten years ago. Their presence served as a powerful reminder that leadership does not end at graduation. Instead, it continues through ongoing service, stewardship, and community involvement.

The Leadership Lufkin Alumni Association extends its sincere appreciation to the City of Lufkin Parks & Recreation Department and Angelina Beautiful Clean for their partnership and support in hosting this event.

Serve at Sunrise reflects the heart of Leadership Lufkin, alumni who continue to show up, work together, and care deeply about the community they call home.
