CommonSpirit - St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin has earned national recognition for excellence in cardiovascular care, placing it among the top-rated hospitals in the country for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures.

The hospital received the American College of Cardiology’s highest rating of four stars, becoming one of only four hospitals in Texas and 57 nationwide to achieve this distinction.

PCI, commonly known as coronary angioplasty, is a procedure used to restore blood flow to the heart by opening narrowed or blocked arteries. The recognition is based on the American College of Cardiology’s CathPCI Registry Quality of Care Composite, which evaluates patient outcomes, clinical practices, and overall quality of care.

This achievement reflects the dedication of the hospital’s cardiovascular team and its longstanding partnership with the Heart Institute of East Texas.

Dr. Ravinder Bachireddy, founder and president of the Heart Institute of East Texas and chief of cardiology, emphasized the importance of providing advanced cardiac services close to home.

Dr. Musa Khan, medical director of the hospital’s cardiac catheterization laboratory, also credited the teamwork of physicians, nurses, technicians, and support staff, along with their commitment to patient safety, clinical quality, and continuous improvement.

Hospital President Eric Robinson recognized the partnership between St. Luke’s and the Heart Institute of East Texas as an important part of strengthening cardiovascular services and expanding access to quality care throughout the region.
